Premier League and FA consider scrapping replays due to crowded fixture list

http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/fa-league-cups/fa-cup-premier-league-and-fa-consider-scrapping-replays-due-to-crowded-fixture-list-a6876246.html

Once again the magic of cup competitions - which cannot be easily converted to an entry on a financial balance sheet - has to suffer in order for agendas to be met.

Well, here's an alternative or two, you fucking finance obsessed vultures:

1. SCRAP COMPLETELY all and any International "friendly fixtures. If YOU fucked up the costs of running your assets & organisation, don't expect the sport you claim to support to paper over the cracks and keep you in your job.

2 REDUCE the size of the Premier League to 18 or even 16 clubs. That way you automatically know how many fewer games will be played over the English season and the odd cup replay or two will make far less difference than, say, any exhibition game played halfway across the world the clubs themselves organize to "plug the gap in the fixture list".

C. Keep it exactly how it is.

Re: Here you go: The suits dipping their toes in the water...
There's only 5 or 6 Clubs who potentially have crowded fixture lists, due to Europe. All other Clubs have exactly the same chance of having cup replays that they have always had. The Clubs in Europe have bigger squads, and by and large don't field their strongest starting eleven in cup competitions as it is.

So why is anyone suggesting a change? Who exactly benefits from making a change?

If they wanted to do something to help Clubs, they could scrap the midweek Premier league games immediately after an FA Cup weekend in January. Those games could easily be rearranged in the remainder of the season, when most Clubs are out of the cup anyway.

Leave it as it is. I think they did the right thing when they limited it to one replay, but they should leave it now. One thing I wouldn't mind is if they dispensed with extra time and had the penalties straight after 90 mins. That might prevent some in juries.

So you're complaining about suits messing with the game and your alternatives are to mess with the game even more?

AND you seem to think that English football starts and stops with the Premierleague.

Nice one Oxbore.

Its just to appease clubs playing in Europe. Fuck 'em, I say.

And a replay in the cup most certainly can be converted to an entry in a balance sheet.

It's an extra game, therefore more money for all. You really haven't thought this through.

When you think of some of the replays in the past its nonsense to think that they will be no more,3-4 replays some of them 😳

How many clubs organise exhibition games halfway across the world during the season?

This thread is ridiculous.

Scrap the UEFA league and Champions league as both are shit and involve too many games and return them to the cup knockout competitions that they were.
Very simple really when take the GREED out of the decision.

The only clubs who will have been agitating for this will be the usual suspects who play in the Chumps League and the Europa cobblers.

This 'crowded' fixture list has only come about since the advent of these newish competitions and so has no bearing whatsoever on 90% of English clubs fixtures. If there are any changes needed they should be made in the European competitions.

The 'suits' are the ones responsible for this non-issue and should keep their meddling fingers away from the domestic calendar.

The only changes I'd make is to stop clubs going off on money making marketing jaunts, and end the ten day shut down for meaningless international friendlies.

Reducing the number of prem clubs would be a terrible decision.

Apart from brining back the UEFA cup as a straight knock out (+ no champions leagues teams) I'd it pretty much as it is.

It will be a massive kick in the bollocks to football if they ever made the FA Cup a midweek competition.

The greatest cup competition in the world, it's no wonder it's continuously being devalued when the FA clearly stopped giving a shit about it years ago.

Fuck me - we agree on something.

BANG ON - this Champions League fucking nonsense.

EUROPEAN and UEFA CUP please.

Then they actually mean something.

Re: Here you go: The suits dipping their toes in the water...
We have one more cup competition than comparative European countries. Release the Premiership clubs from the League Cup and it frees up a small amount of fixture congestion.

Then if we want to avoid FA cup replays make each round sudden death after 120 minutes with a penalty shoot out.

Oh and insist that all competing teams play their first teamers as a majority.

Re: Here you go: The suits dipping their toes in the water...
The Champions League should change to a knock out comp from the start. This league stuff is nonsense. Same for the Europa. Straight to a 2 leg fixture and knock out.

If there is any magic left in football, it's in nights like last Tuesday, and the Everton replay last year.

Would be a tragedy to take that away.

Re: Here you go: The suits dipping their toes in the water...
Comma- or leave it up to each club competing in Europe whether they want to enter the league cup or not. Don't change the format of any competitions, just give them the choice. FA cup entry should remain mandatory. None of this bollocks like when Man U went halfway across the world to play in that nonsense tournament instead.

Lily Hammer 11:15 Tue Feb 16
Re: Here you go: The suits dipping their toes in the water...
The big boys want to take the Cup more seriously purely because it gets you into Europey, which if you win, gets you into the Champion's League.

CL would be better if it were Champions only. EUFA should eb a huge knock out comp from the start.

Re: Here you go: The suits dipping their toes in the water...
Right about the European games. A lot of them are meaningless, not very well supported as attendances demonstrate and not avidly watched on TV.

Back in the day when there were just league and FA cup games every match had a meaning and purpose.

Playing Devil's Advocate, a midweek FA Cup tie with no replay would surely create just as many, if not more, nights like last Tuesday.

Personally, I'm a traditionalist.... leave it as it is.
